Hungary’s Tamas Pal Kiss finished his maiden race for Zele Racing on the podium in Silverstone Saturday. Team mate Luciano Bacheta scores last point.
Kiss, who only joined the team midweek, immediately felt at home with the Austrian outfit. At the “Home of British Motorracing”, the 22-year-old from Miskolc capitalised on his good qualifying result and secured Zele Racing a 3rd place finish in the weekend’s opening event.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be on the podium, especially since this is only my third race in AutoGP. I am very happy that Michael (Zele) gave me this opportunity and I believe I have returned the favour”, Kiss was all smiles.
Local hero Luciano Bacheta, who had won both races at Silverstone on his way to last year’s Formula 2 title, suffered steering problems in qualifying, which put him far up the grid.
Battling hard, the Brit made up a couple of spots earning him the final point. “I love Silverstone, so coming tenth is certainly not, what I had expected. But our race pace was good, so I am confident for Sunday”, he said.
Team boss Michael Zele was “happy for Tamas, and a bit sad for Luciano. Kiss was able to play out our strategy perfectly and was rewarded with a podium. Bacheta was one of the quickest men in the race, but got stuck in traffic. There’s hardly any space to overtake, so more points were impossible.”
Thus, Bacheta is still on 46 points, while Kiss has 33. In the team standings, Zele Racing has posted 91 points in total.
