The third round of the 2011 Austrian Hillclimb Championship was held in Usti nad Orlici (CZ) last weekend. Zele-Racing client Hermann Waldy brought some updates to the track and managed to score full points. Whilst the original Mugen exhaust layout prevented a better performance in the first two races this year, the new purpose built Judd exhaust system delivered the expected performance.
Saturday practice was once again wet, which made it difficult to judge on the cars real performance. However raceday brought sunshine and blue skies for the first time this year. Whilst the track was still damp in some places during the sunday morning practice run, Waldy managed to clock the 4th best time overall.
Hermann Waldy:“ I don´t want to take any risk on this track. There´s too many trees close to the track and with the damp track it´s too easy to get it wrong. My target for this weekend is to be in the top 10 overall, this will allow us to score full points for the Austrian championship. My strongest competitors are not here, this makes life easier. We have a race every weekend now, so i don´t want to damage my car.“
With P6 overall Waldy had done enough, without taking risk. The next racemeeting will be the coming weekend at Verzengis (IT), where Hermann is aiming for a top-finish.
Michael Zele:“ The performance of car and engine is now where we wanted it to be. The exhaust system used by the Japanese team did not work with the Judd engine, therefore we had to bring an update as quick as we could. Now the power is where it should be and Hermann is reporting the engine being very driveable. Also the TC and paddleshift are working perfect now.“
