The Austrian outfit gave the big guns in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany a good fight on its home track
Zele Racing driver Dylan Pereira finished on P5 at the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany event on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, giving the home team a more than respectable result in its rookie season.
„We are not entirely happy with the result, but very much so with Dylan’s performance, as there only drivers of the top teams ahead of us, who have been in the series for years“; team boss Michael Zele said.
He added: „The is our debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup and we are learning race by race. Thus, it is highly satisfactory to see that we are competitive after only three rounds into the season. Therefore, our next goal must be finishing on the podium.“
Pereira already impressed in qualifying Pereira placing his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to fourth on the grid. However, he could not capitalise on his good starting position in race one, as he was pushed into a spin by an overmotivated rival. The Luxembourg driver dropped back to the bottom of the field, but finshed on P11 after overtaking 16 cars in only 13 laps.
In a hectic second run, Pereira kept his cool and brought the car home on P5.
„I have felt at home from day one. The car was excellent all weekend and with a little more luck, I might have finished on the podium. But competition in the Porsche Carrera Cup is high and the top drivers know very well how to drive hard and fast“, Pereira analysed.
„But it was great fun working with Zele and I am talking a lot of great experiences back home with me,“ the replacement driver for Slovak Richard Gonda said.
The Porsche Carrera Cup season already continues for Zele Racing at the end June with round 4 at the notorious Norisring in Nuremburg.
