Local hero Philipp Sager to drive in P9 Challenge
The Austrian outfit Zele Racing will make its Porsche premiere this weekend, fielding one of its Porsche 991GT3 cars in the P9 Challenge.
“Last year, we added a sports car programme to our regular Formula endeavours. Racing in the Renault Sport Trophy was great fun, which is why we have decided to continue with sports cars” team boss Michael Zele said.
However, his team changed brands, moving from the French manufacturer to more prestigious Porsche thanks to a partnership with renowned Lechner Racing.
At the season opener of the P9 Challenge in Spielberg, Philipp Sager will drive Zele Racing’s Porsche991. The 46-year-old Austrian gained a lot of racing experience in the mid-1990s competing in the German Formula Three and 3 und Formula Opel. In 1997, he was even part of the German ChampCar Team ProjectIndy.
Today, Sager owns a big property development group, but has remained in car racing as a Gentleman driver. Most recently, he has been racing a 991GT3 in the Porsche Cup Challenge Middle East.
“I have known Philipp for quite some time and he was immediately excited about the project. I am sure, we will look good in our home event”, Zele added.
All runs, i.e. two sprint and one endurance race, will take place Saturday.
