Austrian outfit Zele Racing will compete in the brand-new Renault RS01 Trophy
For the 2015 season, Zele Racing has decided to expand its racing engagements and added the Renault RS01 Trophy to their existing AutoGP outfit.
The RS01 is faster than a GT3 car, has more downforce than many formula racers, and powered by a 550 HP Nissan GTR engine reaches a top speed beyond 300 kph. The car has been purpose-built for the French manufacturers by renowned racing engineers Dallara.
At the first official test in Varano, Italy, this week Wednesday, the Austrian team is fielding pro drivers Vittorio Ghirelli – 2013 AutoGP champion – and Formula Two champion Luciano Bacheta, who are accompanied by prestige drivers Philippe Bourgois and Peter Milavec.
“Luciano was already part of our AutoGP programme, winning in Marrakesh in 2013, and we do of course know Vittorio well from racing against him”, team boss Michael Zele said.
The Renault RS01 Trophy will travel the globe alongside the renowned World Series by Renault 3.5 and the series champion will earn himself a drive with a Nissan Nismo works team in the Japanese Super-GT Series 2016. The best prestige driver will be rewarded with a LMP2 cockpit at next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Frenchman Bourgois is particularly excited saying: “Being French, it is something special for me to run in this beautiful car. My understanding with Zele Racing has been perfect from day one, so I expect us to have a lot of success and also fun.”
The RS01 Trophy series opens on May 30 in Spa, Belgium, and closes on October 18 at Jerez, Spain.
