Austrian outfit Zele Racing enjoyed two promising days at the official AutoGP 2014 tests in Jerez de la Frontera – Campana third despite hard tires
While European F3 Open Copa leaders Richard Gonda and Cameron Twynham proved their talent on Monday, finishing 4th and 7th respectively, AutoGP regular Sergio Campana set the third best lap time on Tuesday, despite using harder tires. Russia’s Artem Markelov came top rookie in seventh place. “All four drivers showed their skill. Sergio has a lot more experience in the car than the three youngsters, so he was expectably quicker. However, as we were the only one’s using the harder compound, he just came short of setting the top time of the day,” team boss Michael Zele said.
The Austrian team is heading into its third straight season in AutoGP, having recorded their maiden victory and several podium finishes this year. Who will be behind the wheels of the Zele cars in 2014 has yet to be determined. “We have gained a lot of crucial data here in Jerez and we are negotiating intensely with several drivers. I am confident, we will have a strong pair on the grid, when the lights go on green next March”, Zele confirmed.
